Mechanism of Action
ACUVUE THERAVISION WITH KETOTIFEN

Ketotifen is a selective histamine H1-receptor antagonist and mast cell stabilizer that inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators such as histamine and leukotrienes from mast cells.

ACTIFED

ACTIFED contains triprolidine, a first-generation antihistamine that competitively inhibits histamine H1 receptors, and pseudoephedrine, a sympathomimetic amine that directly stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors, causing vasoconstriction and decongestion.

Ketotifen is a mast cell stabilizer and antihistamine; contact lens must be removed before instillation and may be reinserted after 10 minutes. Do not use while wearing contact lenses. Advise patient to wait at least 5 minutes between different eye drops. The preservative benzalkonium chloride may be absorbed by soft contact lenses.

ACTIFED

Actifed (pseudoephedrine + triprolidine) is contraindicated in patients with severe hypertension, coronary artery disease, or narrow-angle glaucoma. Pseudoephedrine can cause CNS stimulation and insomnia, so avoid evening dosing.
