Salmeterol is a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) that stimulates adenyl cyclase, increasing cAMP levels, leading to bronchodilation and inhibition of mast cell mediator release.
Betamethasone valerate is a corticosteroid that induces phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins (lipocortins), which control the release of arachidonic acid from membrane phospholipids, thereby inhibiting prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis. It has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects.
One inhalation (100 mcg fluticasone propionate and 50 mcg salmeterol) twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart, via oral inhalation.
