The combination product contains a corticosteroid (dexamethasone) which suppresses inflammation by inhibiting phospholipase A2, reducing prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, and a topical antibiotic (usually neomycin or polymyxin B) which inhibits bacterial protein synthesis or disrupts bacterial cell membranes.
Prednicarbate is a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. It binds to glucocorticoid receptors, leading to inhibition of phospholipase A2, decreased release of arachidonic acid, and reduced synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
2 puffs (100 mcg each) intranasally twice daily
Topical: apply sparingly to affected area twice daily; maximum 50 g per week.
