Magnesium sulfate provides magnesium ions, which are essential for various physiological processes. It acts as a cofactor for enzymatic reactions, stabilizes excitable membranes, and antagonizes calcium entry at the neuromuscular junction, leading to reduced acetylcholine release and muscle relaxation.
