Second and third trimester exposure may cause pseudohermaphroditism in females. Risk is highest during the first 12 weeks of gestation.
Chorionic gonadotropin is a pregnancy hormone; exogenous use during first trimester may theoretically alter placental hormone balance, but no increased risk of congenital anomalies has been established.
