Aphthasol (amlexanox) is an anti-inflammatory agent that inhibits the formation and release of inflammatory mediators such as histamine and leukotrienes from mast cells, neutrophils, and other inflammatory cells. It also inhibits the activation of eosinophils and neutrophils, and reduces cytokine production, thereby suppressing the immune response involved in aphthous ulcer formation.
Cordran N contains flurandrenolide, a corticosteroid that exerts anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins (lipocortins) and modulating gene expression; neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit.
Adults: 5 mg orally three times daily for 5 days.
Apply sparingly to affected area 2-3 times daily. Use for no longer than 2 weeks.
