Aphthasol (amlexanox) is an anti-inflammatory agent that inhibits the formation and release of inflammatory mediators such as histamine and leukotrienes from mast cells, neutrophils, and other inflammatory cells. It also inhibits the activation of eosinophils and neutrophils, and reduces cytokine production, thereby suppressing the immune response involved in aphthous ulcer formation.
POKONZA (ponazuril) is a triazine antiprotozoal agent that inhibits the mitochondrial electron transport chain at the cytochrome bc1 complex, disrupting the parasite's energy metabolism and leading to its death. It is active against apicomplexan parasites such as Toxoplasma gondii, Neospora caninum, and Sarcocystis neurona.
Adults: 5 mg orally three times daily for 5 days.
Intravenous: 0.1 mg/kg every 8 hours for 28 consecutive days per 6-week cycle.
