BANCAP HC vs OXYCONTIN

BANCAP HC contains hydrocodone, a mu-opioid receptor agonist, and acetaminophen, which inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, primarily in the CNS, to reduce pain and fever.
Oxycodone is a full opioid agonist with relative selectivity for the mu-opioid receptor, although it can bind to other opioid receptors at higher doses. The principal therapeutic action of oxycodone is analgesia. Like all full opioid agonists, there is no ceiling effect for analgesia with oxycodone. Clinically, dosage is titrated to provide adequate analgesia and may be limited by adverse reactions, including respiratory and CNS depression.
Each 5 mL contains hydrocodone bitartrate 5 mg and acetaminophen 500 mg. For moderate to moderately severe pain: 1 tablet (or 5 mL suspension) every 4 to 6 hours as needed; maximum single dose: 2 tablets (10 mL); maximum daily dose: 8 tablets (40 mL) due to acetaminophen limit.
