Betamethasone acetate and betamethasone sodium phosphate are corticosteroids that bind to the glucocorticoid receptor, leading to modulation of gene expression and suppression of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. They inhibit phospholipase A2, reduce cytokine production, and decrease immune cell migration and activation.
Dexamethasone is a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, binding to the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and modulating gene expression through transactivation and transrepression. It inhibits phospholipase A2, reduces prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, suppresses cytokine production (IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, TNF-alpha), and decreases immune cell migration and activation.

The terminal elimination half-life of betamethasone is approximately 6.5 hours (range 4-8 hours) in plasma.
