Betamethasone acetate and betamethasone sodium phosphate are corticosteroids that bind to the glucocorticoid receptor, leading to modulation of gene expression and suppression of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. They inhibit phospholipase A2, reduce cytokine production, and decrease immune cell migration and activation.
Wixela Inhub is an inhaled corticosteroid (fluticasone propionate) and long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (salmeterol) combination. Fluticasone propionate reduces inflammation by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, inhibiting pro-inflammatory mediators. Salmeterol stimulates beta2-receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, leading to bronchodilation via activation of adenylate cyclase and increased cAMP.
1-4 mg (of betamethasone base) IM or IV every 12-24 hours, tapering as clinically indicated.

The terminal elimination half-life of betamethasone is approximately 6.5 hours (range 4-8 hours) in plasma.
