Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
5 mcg subcutaneously twice daily within 60 minutes before morning and evening meals; may increase to 10 mcg twice daily after 1 month if tolerated.
