Ceftibuten is a third-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), particularly PBP 3, thereby inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking and leading to cell lysis.
Bactericidal; inhibits cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), inhibiting transpeptidation and autolysin activation.
400 mg orally once daily for 5-10 days.
1-2 g IV/IM every 6 hours for moderate to severe infections; maximum 12 g/day.
