It has broad-spectrum activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, including anaerobes, and is resistant to beta-lactamases.
Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby blocking transpeptidation and leading to cell lysis and death.
1 to 2 g intravenously or intramuscularly every 12 hours for 5 to 10 days. Maximum dose 6 g daily.
