Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin, inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking.
1-2 g IV every 4-6 hours; maximum 12 g/day.
