Cefprozil, a second-generation cephalosporin, exerts bactericidal activity by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis.
Ceftriaxone is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death. It has broad-spectrum activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
250-500 mg orally every 12 hours for 10 days; for pharyngitis/tonsillitis: 500 mg orally every 24 hours for 10 days.
1-2 g IV/IM every 24 hours; maximum 4 g/day.
