CHLORAMPHENICOL vs XIMINO

Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing peptide bond formation.
XIMINO is a tetracycline-class antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing aminoacyl-tRNA from binding to the mRNA-ribosome complex.
50-100 mg/kg/day IV divided every 6 hours (not to exceed 4 g/day); for susceptible severe infections, 12.5-25 mg/kg IV every 6 hours.
400 mg orally twice daily with food for 7 days.
