Sodium pertechnetate Tc-99m is a radiopharmaceutical that emits gamma rays (140 keV). The pertechnetate anion (TcO4−) is taken up by the thyroid gland via the sodium-iodide symporter (NIS) and also distributes in salivary glands, gastric mucosa, and choroid plexus.
