The primary mechanism involves binding to glucocorticoid receptors, which modulates gene transcription to inhibit phospholipase A2, reduce prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, and suppress cytokine release.
10-40 mg orally once daily in the morning; for acute exacerbations, up to 60 mg/day divided into 2-4 doses.
