It inhibits phospholipase A2, reducing prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, and suppresses immune cell migration and cytokine release.

1 applicatorful (90 mg hydrocortisone acetate) rectally twice daily for 2-3 weeks, then every other day as needed.
0.5% ophthalmic suspension: 1-2 drops into affected eye(s) four times daily. In severe cases, may be increased to 1-2 drops every hour during the first week, then taper.
