DIENESTROL vs NORGESTIMATE AND ETHINYL ESTRADIOL

Synthetic nonsteroidal estrogen that binds to estrogen receptors, activating transcription of estrogen-responsive genes, leading to effects similar to endogenous estrogens.
Combination oral contraceptive: ethinyl estradiol suppresses gonadotropin release via estrogen receptor; norgestimate is a progestin that inhibits ovulation and thickens cervical mucus.
0.1 to 0.5 mg orally once daily for estrogen replacement therapy; 0.5 to 1.0 mg orally once daily for prostatic carcinoma.
One tablet (norgestimate 0.250 mg/ethinyl estradiol 0.035 mg) orally once daily for 21 consecutive days followed by 7 placebo tablets.
