Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), inhibiting transpeptidase activity and disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking.
Oxacillin is a penicillinase-resistant beta-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby blocking the transpeptidation step in peptidoglycan cross-linking. It is resistant to staphylococcal beta-lactamase.
Adults: 1 g (as amoxicillin 875 mg + clavulanate 125 mg) orally every 12 hours for 7-10 days.
1-2 grams IV every 4-6 hours.
