Epiduo is a fixed-dose combination of adapalene, a retinoid that binds to retinoic acid receptors (RAR-β, RAR-γ) and normalizes follicular cell differentiation, and benzoyl peroxide, an oxidizing agent with bactericidal activity against Propionibacterium acnes and mild keratolytic effect.
Adapalene binds to retinoic acid nuclear receptors (RARβ/γ) modulating gene expression, reducing comedogenesis and inflammation. Benzoyl peroxide oxidizes bacterial proteins and produces reactive oxygen species, killing Propionibacterium acnes and reducing follicular hyperkeratinization.
Apply a thin layer to affected areas of the face and/or trunk once daily in the evening.

Adapalene: terminal elimination half-life 7-12 hours (mean 9 hours) after topical application; no systemic accumulation with once-daily dosing.
Adapalene: terminal half-life of 0.5-2 hours in dermis, but clinical effects persist due to receptor binding; systemic half-life after topical application is biphasic with a long terminal phase of ~7-10 hours for low levels. Benzoyl peroxide: not systemically absorbed; half-life not applicable.
