Acetaminophen (paracetamol) is a central analgesic and antipyretic agent whose exact mechanism is not fully understood but is thought to involve inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes in the brain, primarily COX-2, and activation of descending serotonergic pathways.
