Fluorine-18 decays by positron emission, and the emitted positron annihilates with an electron to produce two 511 keV gamma photons. When incorporated into radiopharmaceuticals such as fludeoxyglucose F-18, it accumulates in metabolically active tissues, enabling PET imaging.
Krypton-81m (81mKr) is a short-lived radionuclide that decays by isomeric transition emitting gamma rays (190 keV). When inhaled, it distributes in the lungs according to regional ventilation. Imaging is performed using a gamma camera to assess pulmonary ventilation. The generator produces 81mKr from its parent rubidium-81 (81Rb).

Intravenous infusion of krypton-81m gas in oxygen, typically 400-800 MBq (10-20 mCi) per study, administered via generator elution with a flow rate of 500-1000 mL/min.
