Hydrocortisone sodium phosphate is a corticosteroid that binds to the glucocorticoid receptor, leading to regulation of gene transcription. MAXIDEX (dexamethasone) is a potent glucocorticoid that binds to the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), leading to modulation of gene expression and inhibition of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. It suppresses immune response through inhibition of cytokine production (e.g., IL-1, IL-2, TNF-alpha) and reduces vasodilation and vascular permeability.
100-500 mg intravenously or intramuscularly every 2-6 hours as needed for acute conditions; typical dose 100 mg IV/IM every 8 hours.
