Levocetirizine is a selective peripheral histamine H1-receptor antagonist. It inhibits the effects of histamine at the H1 receptor, reducing allergic symptoms such as itching, sneezing, and rhinorrhea. It has lower affinity for central H1 receptors and anticholinergic properties compared to first-generation antihistamines.
TAVIST-1 (clemastine fumarate) is a first-generation antihistamine that acts as a competitive antagonist at histamine H1 receptors, thereby preventing histamine-mediated effects such as vasodilation, increased capillary permeability, and bronchoconstriction. It also exhibits anticholinergic and sedative properties.
Oral, 5 mg once daily in the evening.
