Levocetirizine is a selective peripheral histamine H1-receptor antagonist. It inhibits the effects of histamine at the H1 receptor, reducing allergic symptoms such as itching, sneezing, and rhinorrhea. It has lower affinity for central H1 receptors and anticholinergic properties compared to first-generation antihistamines.
ZERVIATE (cetirizine ophthalmic solution) contains cetirizine, a selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist. It inhibits histamine-induced vasodilation and increased vascular permeability, leading to reduction of ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
Oral, 5 mg once daily in the evening.
1 drop in each affected eye twice daily (approximately 8 hours apart).
