Methylprednisolone is a glucocorticoid receptor agonist. It also inhibits phospholipase A2, reducing prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis.
Synthetic glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, and metabolic effects; binds to glucocorticoid receptor, modulating gene expression and inhibiting phospholipase A2, cytokine production, and immune cell activity.
4 to 48 mg/day orally or intramuscularly in divided doses every 12 hours; for acute conditions, up to 120 mg/day intravenously in divided doses every 4-6 hours.
