Methylprednisolone sodium succinate is a glucocorticoid that binds to the glucocorticoid receptor, leading to modulation of gene expression. Prednisolone is a corticosteroid that binds to the glucocorticoid receptor, leading to modulation of gene expression and subsequent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. It inhibits phospholipase A2, reducing prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, and suppresses cytokine production.
Intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection: 10-40 mg initially, then 10-40 mg every 6-12 hours. For pulse therapy: 1 g IV over 30 minutes daily for 3-5 days.
