Mechanism of Action
OPCON

Opcon is a brand name for the injectable solution containing desmopressin acetate, a synthetic analog of the antidiuretic hormone vasopressin. It acts on V2 receptors in the renal collecting ducts to increase water reabsorption, reducing urine volume and osmolality.

PREFRIN-A

PREFRIN-A contains phenylephrine, an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist, and acetaminophen, a centrally acting analgesic and antipyretic. Phenylephrine causes vasoconstriction in nasal mucosa, reducing congestion. Acetaminophen inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes in the brain, reducing prostaglandin synthesis.

Risk is increased in patients with conditions predisposing to hyponatremia or those receiving certain medications. Monitor serum sodium levels, especially in the elderly, children, and patients with increased intracranial pressure.

Avoid use in patients with hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease. Risk of hepatotoxicity with acetaminophen overdose. Do not exceed recommended dose. Avoid concurrent use with MAO inhibitors.
