Oritavancin is a lipoglycopeptide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to the D-alanyl-D-alanine terminus of the peptidoglycan precursor, disrupting transglycosylation and transpeptidation. It also disrupts bacterial membrane integrity and causes depolarization, leading to cell death.
Tindamax (tinidazole) is a nitroimidazole antibiotic that enters bacterial and protozoal cells, where the nitro group is reduced by bacterial nitroreductases to form reactive intermediates that damage DNA, leading to cell death. It exhibits activity against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa.
1200 mg IV once daily for 3 days
