Oxacillin is a penicillinase-resistant beta-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby blocking the transpeptidation step in peptidoglycan cross-linking. It is resistant to staphylococcal beta-lactamase.
Penicillin G (V-CILLIN) inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), inhibiting transpeptidase activity and autolysin activation, leading to cell lysis.
1-2 grams IV every 4-6 hours.
250-500 mg orally every 8 hours or 500 mg every 12 hours for mild to moderate infections.
