Oxacillin is a penicillinase-resistant beta-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby blocking the transpeptidation step in peptidoglycan cross-linking. It is resistant to staphylococcal beta-lactamase.
Amoxicillin is a semisynthetic penicillin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death.
1-2 grams IV every 4-6 hours.
250-500 mg orally every 8 hours or 500-875 mg orally every 12 hours for 7-14 days; maximum 4 g/day.
