Sodium chloride 0.9% is an isotonic solution that expands extracellular fluid volume, replacing sodium and chloride deficits. Sodium is the primary cation maintaining osmotic pressure and acid-base balance; chloride is the major extracellular anion. The solution provides electrolyte replacement and hydration without altering serum osmolality.

Acyclovir is a synthetic purine nucleoside analog with inhibitory activity against herpes simplex virus types 1 (HSV-1) and 2 (HSV-2), and varicella-zoster virus (VZV). 0.9% sodium chloride is isotonic and is the preferred crystalloid for volume resuscitation in hemorrhagic shock and for administration of packed red blood cells. Avoid in patients with hypernatremia, fluid overload, or significant renal impairment. Use with caution in congestive heart failure and severe edema. It is compatible with most IV drugs but check compatibility before co-administration.

ACYCLOVIR IN SODIUM CHLORIDE 0.9% PRESERVATIVE FREE

Acyclovir in sodium chloride 0.9% preservative-free is for IV administration only; do not administer IM or SC. Infuse over at least 1 hour to prevent renal tubular damage.
