Triclosan inhibits bacterial fatty acid synthesis by binding to the enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase (FabI), blocking the production of lipids necessary for cell membrane integrity.

| Breastfeeding | Triclos is excreted into human breast milk in low concentrations; however, there are no reports of adverse effects in nursing infants. Caution is advised in breastfeeding women, especially with long-term use. |
