Clinical management of Addison's Disease in Uganda

Acute Crisis (0-3 years)

Hydrocortisone 25 mg IV 6 hourly until stable.

Acute Crisis (3-12 years)

Hydrocortisone 50 mg IV 6 hourly until stable.

Chronic Case

Replacement treatment with Prednisolone (1-5 mg/day).

Acute Crisis

Hydrocortisone 100 mg IV 6 hourly until stable, then switch to oral. IV fluids and dextrose to maintain volume and blood sugar.

Chronic Case

Replacement treatment with Prednisolone (5-7.5 mg/day). If history of abrupt steroid cessation, restart prednisolone and slowly decrease by 2.5-5 mg per week.
