General Adult
Treatment
1.
Diet & Monitoring
Restrict salt. Avoid protein malnutrition (plant proteins liberally). Restrict water if hyponatremia present. Daily weight, BP.
2.
Diuretics
Spironolactone 50-100 mg/day (max 400 mg/day). Furosemide 20-40 mg/day can be added if pedal oedema present (monitor for hypotension).
3.
Drainage (Paracentesis)
For Grade 3 (Severe) ascites: Small volume (<5L) or large volume (5-10L) with 8g albumin infusion per litre removed.
