Diagnosis and treatment protocols for Diarrhoea in Young Infants in Uganda

Severe Dehydration

Sunken eyes, skin pinch returns >2 seconds, no movement. Give IV fluids (Plan C) and refer URGENTLY.

Some Dehydration

Restless, irritable, sunken eyes, skin pinch returns slowly. Give ORS (Plan B).

No Dehydration

Give ORS to treat at home and continue breastfeeding (Plan A).

Persistent Diarrhoea (>14 days)

Treat dehydration and refer to hospital.
