Pediatric

Emergency Management

1.

Fluid Replacement

Normal Saline 10-20 ml/kg initial bolus.

2.

Insulin Therapy (>5 years)

Soluble insulin 0.1 IU/kg/hour IM.

3.

Insulin Therapy (<5 years)

Soluble insulin 0.05 IU/kg/hour IM.


General Adult

Emergency Management

1.

Fluid Replacement

Normal Saline (0.9% NaCl) 15-20 ml/kg in first hour (500-1000 ml). Continue 5-15 ml/kg/hour based on response.

2.

Insulin Therapy

Soluble insulin 4-6 IU IM every hour until stabilised. Switch to SC once patient is stable and eating.

3.

Potassium Replacement

Add KCl 1 ampoule in every 1L of infusion once passing urine. Adjust based on K levels if available.

4.

Other Measures

Enoxaparin 4000 IU SC to prevent thromboembolism. Monitor hourly.
