Uganda guidelines for the treatment of Herpes Zoster (Shingles)

Antiviral

Acyclovir 800 mg 5 times a day for 7 days. Must start within 48-72 hours of onset.

Neuropathic Pain

Amitriptyline 25 mg nocte OR Carbamazepine 200 mg nocte.

Local Care

Clean with Chlorhexidine 0.05% and apply Calamine lotion.
