Evidence-based management of Iron Deficiency Anaemia according to Uganda Clinical Guidelines 2023

Ferrous sulphate (<5 years)

2.5 ml of 60 mg/5 ml syrup twice daily.

Ferrous sulphate (6-12 years)

200 mg once or twice daily.

Treatment

Ferrous sulphate 200 mg every 8 hours for 3-6 months. Take between meals. If not tolerated, take with food.

If hookworm suspected

Albendazole 400 mg single dose.
