Pertussis — Uganda (General Pediatric population)
General Management
Maintain nutrition/fluids. Give oxygen/suction if cyanotic. Isolate until 5 days of antibiotics. Cough mixtures, sedatives, mucolytics, and antihistamines are USELESS.
Antibiotic Therapy
Initiate within 3 weeks of cough: Erythromycin 500 mg every 6 hours for 7 days (Child: 10-15 mg/kg every 6 hours).
