Diagnosis and treatment protocols for Postpartum Haemorrhage (PPH) in Uganda

First Line

Massage uterus. Oxytocin 10 IU IM or slow IV. Tranexamic Acid 1g IV slowly.

Uterine Atony

Misoprostol 800 mcg sublingual OR Ergometrine 0.2mg IM (if non-hypertensive).

Refractory

Uterine Balloon Tamponade (UBT) and Non-pneumatic Anti-Shock Garment (NASG). Urgent referral.

Retained Placenta

Manual removal under Diazepam 10mg IV. Give prophylactic Ceftriaxone 2g IV stat.
