General Adult
Treatment
1.
Instruction
Take 1 pill daily at the same time. If starting within 5 days of period, no back-up needed. Otherwise, use condoms for 7 days.
2.
Missed Pill (1-2 pills)
Take missed pill immediately, then continue daily. No back-up needed.
3.
Missed Pill (3+ pills)
Take most recent missed pill, discard others. Use condoms for 7 days. If in 3rd week, skip inactive pills and start new pack.
4.
Side Effect: Nausea
Take pill at bedtime or with food. If symptoms persist, consider non-hormonal methods.
5.
Drug Interactions
Effectiveness reduced by Rifampicin, Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Nevirapine. Use back-up FP during and for 7 days after course.
