Evidence-based management of Injectable Progestogen Contraceptive according to Uganda Clinical Guidelines 2023

DMPA-IM

150 mg deep IM into deltoid or buttock every 12 weeks. Do not rub the injection site.

DMPA-SC (Sayana Press)

104 mg subcutaneous in thigh, arm, or abdomen every 12 weeks.

Late Injection (>2 weeks late)

Rule out pregnancy before giving next dose. Use back-up FP for 7 days.

Side Effect: Amenorrhoea

Reassure that this is common and not harmful.

Side Effect: Heavy Bleeding

Give 1 COC pill daily for 21 days OR Ibuprofen 800 mg 8 hourly for 5 days.
