Diagnosis and treatment protocols for Progestogen-Only Pill (POP) in Uganda

Instruction

Take 1 pill daily at exactly the same time. Safe for breastfeeding mothers.

Missed Pill (>3 hours late)

Take missed pill immediately. Use back-up FP (condoms) for the next 48 hours.

Side Effect: Irregular Bleeding

Common and not harmful. If bothersome, give Ibuprofen 400-800 mg every 8 hours for 5 days.

Side Effect: Heavy Bleeding

Ibuprofen 800 mg every 8 hours for 5 days + Ferrous salt 60 mg daily to prevent anaemia.
