Preeclampsia — Uganda (Pregnant Women population)
Diagnosis
BP ≥160/110 mmHg and ≥1+ proteinuria OR any BP with organ dysfunction (headache, blurred vision, epigastric pain).
First Aid (Seizure Prevention)
Magnesium Sulphate loading dose: 4 g of 20% solution IV over 20 mins AND 10 g (5 g in each buttock) deep IM.
Maintenance
Magnesium Sulphate 5 g IM every 4 hours for 24 hours. Monitor RR, knee jerks, and urine output.
Antihypertensive
Hydralazine 5 mg IV bolus every 30 mins until diastolic BP <100 mmHg OR Labetalol 20 mg IV over 2 mins.
Emergency
Urgently deliver the baby regardless of gestational age.
