Stroke — Uganda (General Adult population)
General Care
Ensure airways. NPO until swallow assessed. IV or NGT for hydration. Control blood sugar with insulin if diabetic.
Ischaemic Stroke (Acute)
Aspirin 150-300 mg every 24 hours. Treat hypertension only if extreme (>220/120) or complications. DVT prophylaxis with enoxaparin 40 mg SC daily.
Ischaemic Stroke (Chronic)
Early mobilization and physiotherapy. Aspirin 75-100 mg once daily for life. Atorvastatin 40 mg daily for life.
Haemorrhagic Stroke
Supportive care. Refer for CT scan and neurosurgical evaluation.
