Clinimix E 5/25 sulfite free w/ elect in dextrose 25% w/ calcium
Clinical Indications
Maximum-concentration Clinimix E TPN. For severely fluid-restricted ICU patients with high caloric and protein requirements. Allows complete nutrition in as little as 750 mL/day.
Dosing & Administration Rate
Tight volume management. Continuous insulin infusion almost always required. Complete nutritional goals achievable at reduced fluid volume.
Warnings & Precautions
Highest osmolarity in Clinimix series (>2,000 mOsm/L) — CVC dedicated lumen is non-negotiable. Severe thrombophlebitis and vascular damage with peripheral extravasation. Maximise glucose management.
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to amino acids. Severe liver disease or hepatic coma. Severe renal impairment (without dialysis). Abnormalities of amino acid metabolism.

Mechanism of Action
Provides a source of biologically utilizable essential and non-essential amino acids for protein synthesis, and dextrose as a source of calories.
Adverse Reactions
Phlebitis, fluid overload, hyperglycemia, hyperosmolar syndrome, electrolyte imbalances, metabolic acidosis, liver enzyme elevations.
