When to Use

When to Use

Screening Asian postmenopausal women to determine the need for DXA (Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry) scanning.
Identifying high-risk candidates for osteoporosis in resource-limited settings where DXA is not universally available.
Primary care triage for bone health.

Simplicity and High Sensitivity

OSTA relies entirely on two readily available variables: Age and Weight. It was designed to have a high sensitivity (>90%) for identifying women with a T-score ≤ -2.5, ensuring true osteoporotics are not missed.

Related Scores in Practice

In clinical practice, this assessment is frequently evaluated alongside other validated measures. Depending on the patient's presentation and specific diagnostic requirements, you may also need to utilize the FRAX Score or the Breslow & Clark Microstaging to formulate a comprehensive care plan.
